Inspiring Lake County Students Through the Arts

 

Lake Community Arts understands the life-changing power of music education, which is why we are committed to serving the students and teachers of Lake County through youth ensembles, free performances, and continuing education opportunities. Learning music gives students more than just notes and rhythms—it builds confidence, discipline, and creativity while encouraging teamwork and perseverance. Studies continue to show that children engaged in music perform better academically, develop stronger social skills, and discover healthy ways to express themselves. By prioritizing music education for young people, Lake Community Arts is helping to nurture the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and artists.

Each year, the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young People’s Concerts (YPC) provide thousands of elementary students with their very first live symphonic experience. In 2025, for the first time, the program will come to Lake County with four performances—two at Lake Minneola High School and two at Leesburg High School—serving 2,500 third, fourth, and fifth graders. Through the theme Where in the World is the OPO?, students will embark on an interactive musical journey that connects the symphony with lessons in history, science, geography, and the humanities. With the integration of orchestra, opera, and ballet, as well as classroom preparation materials aligned with state standards, YPC not only fosters a love of the arts but also strengthens academic learning and positive youth development.

Looking ahead, Lake Community Arts is committed to building on this momentum by creating youth ensembles that give Lake County students direct opportunities to make music together. Plans include establishing a youth choir, youth band, and other ensembles where young musicians can develop their skills, collaborate with peers, and experience the joy of performance. These groups will provide a vital pathway for students to grow artistically while cultivating leadership, discipline, and teamwork.

In addition to student ensembles, Lake Community Arts is also dedicated to supporting the music educators who make these opportunities possible. By offering professional development programs, workshops, and collaborations with leading artists and conductors, we will equip Lake County Schools’ music teachers with new tools, techniques, and inspiration for their classrooms. Lake Community Arts is committed to serving both students and teachers, ensuring that music education in our community continues to thrive for generations to come.
